Efkarpia was first populated by refugees from Asia Minor who settled in this region after the disaster of 1922. It was named after the Minor Asian city, Efkarpia, currently under the Turkish name “Usak”. It has a total population of 6,598 residents (according to 2001 census) has a total area of 13,500 hectares and a population of 6,645 residents, according to the latest census of the NSS conducted in 2001. The actual population is much larger and amounts to about 15,000 residents.
